FAQ
Collapse All / Expand All
We do not use any synthetic pesticides when growing our plants. To control diseases or pests, we use products such as neem oil, copper fungicides, and biological pest controls. For feeding our plants, though we used to use strictly organic fertilizer, we've decided it's in the best interest of the planet to include the use of a synthetic control release fertilizer called Nutricote. Using all organic for container growing required applications of 2 times per week which caused lots of run off. There is little or no run off when using the controlled release products...and though synthetic they may be, they are best for use in our area since any run off will end up in the rivers and Chesapeak Bay.
Note: We DO grow our vegetable plants with only organic fertilizers.

Are Your Plants Shipped In From Somewhere Else?
The majority of our plants are grown from seed or cutting right here on our farm. The only plants that we ship in from elsewhere are those which are still patented and can only be procurred from licensed growers for that particular plant.
We do alot of recycling of plastic pots and containers, use organic certified growing mixes and fertilizers, and only use natural OMRI certified pesticides. In addition, our grasshopperperennials.com website is totally green hosted and powered by the wind.

Will You Ship or Deliver Plants?
For the most part, we prefer that you come to our nursery and pick up your plants. We will deliver within a 30 mile radius by special request.
We try our best to keep costs as low as possible because we feel that everyone should have the opportunity to have a nice perennial garden.. To keep the costs so low, we use unheated greenhouses which means our products will be growing as they would outside. Also, we use very little signage or tags since this adds up to additional cost. All containers are recycled and we ask that you return your empty pots to the nursery. We do little in the way of advertising since that in itself is costly; we rely heavily on word-of-mouth for folks to find out about us. We do not guarantee plants other than they are true to name and healthy when they leave the nursery. All of this enables us to keep prices inexpensive.
In a word: No. Plants are already below wholesale. Brut we will give a discount of 10% if you purchase $500 or more.
